Arctic Winter Games, Team Alaska looking for interested athletes

Arctic Winter Games Team Alaska is looking for athletes interested in being part of the Alaska Team to the 2010 Games, March 6-13 in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canda. The selection process has begun in many sports.

Athletes who are interested in representing Alaska in basketball, ice hockey, indoor soccer, volleyball, Inuit games and Dene games should go to the Team Alasaka Web site at for further information.

Teams in all these sports will be selected through an application process.

Interested athletes must complete a packet that includes an application (available online at the above-mentioned Web site), as well as other materials that are specified in the selection criteria. The application packet must be sent to the Sport Coordinator for that sport.

Selection criteria and procedures for each sport are available at Athletes, coaches and parents need to read these criteria and procedures carefully so they can meet all the application requirements and deadlines. These documents include the names of, and contact information for, the Team Alaska Sport Coordinators. Age classes and other eligibility requirements also are specified.

Those interested in coaching should contact the Sport Coordinators immediately to learn more. Coaching positions are available in boys' ice hockey, indoor soccer and volleyball (boys' coach).

Application deadlines are:

Basketball - Oct. 1

Boys' ice hockey - Oct. 1

Indoor soccer - Oct. 15

Volleyball - Oct. 1

Inuit games - Open class/Oct. 1; Junior class/Nov. 1 Dene games - Oct. 1
