September morn

Lowering skies hang over Shelter Island and points west in a photo taken from Eagle Beach on Labor Day. The weather authorities had predicted 6-foot seas in the general area, which may explain the absence of small boats in this view of Favorite Channel and tiny Bird Island. Morning seas in the channel were closer to 6 inches, but did increase -- along with the wind -- by mid-afternoon.
