Laura Joralemon, left, presented the first of the Southeast Alaska Master Gardeners Presidents Lecture Series on Tuesday at Juneau-Douglas High School. Locally grown veggies - including kale, carrots, peas and swiss chard - and Alaskan seafood were basis for kale soup, a seafood/vegetable Thai dish, stir fry, and Joralemon's favorite halibut with swiss chard dish. According to Carol Bruce, the audience, right, enjoyed tasting examples of cooking exotically with "home grown" Alaska vegetables. Joralemon is a past Master Gardeners president, a great cook and excellent gardener, Bruce said. Joralemon coordinated a past garden conference, worked with Auke Bay Elementary School on growing plants at the Community Garden and gave lectures in the Master Gardeners "Gardening at Noon" series.
