Cross country in Petersburg

Juneau-Douglas High School junior Leah Francis won the Region V Jack Eddy Classic on Saturday in Petersburg with a time of 18:05.00, and freshman Karissa Jackson was second in 20:20, as the Juneau girls finished first with 22 points.

Skagway was second in the 3.1-mile course with 69, and following were Ketchikan, with 78, Sitka, with 82, Mount Edgecumbe, with 104, and Petersburg, with 174. Kake, Wrangell, Klawock and Metlakatla did not field complete teams.

For the boys, JDHS sophomore Zack Bursell ran 16:35.00, finishing second behind Ketchikan's Isaac Updike, with 16:29. Juneau won the team finish with 27 points. Mount Edgecumbe was second, with 72. Sitka had 75, Ketchikan had 96, Petersburg had 152, Wrangell had 163, Klawock had 187 and Kake had 190. Metlakatla, Craig and Skagway did not field complete teams.
