FAIRBANKS - Family and friends were on hand to greet 284 soldiers from Fort Wainwright returning from a year in Iraq.

The soldiers getting back Saturday were from the 2nd Battalion, 8th Field Artillery and 539th Transportation Company, 17th Combat Service Support Battalion.

The scene will be repeated as 4,000 troops in the Stryker Brigade return by Oct. 1.

Sgt. Shiloh Holland was finishing his third deployment.

He was quickly surrounded by his wife, Leanne, and their three children.

His youngest was five weeks old when Holland last saw him.

He jokes that he plans on getting beat up by little kids for the next few days. He says he's looking forward to getting to know his 1-year-old son.
