Wine tasting benefits

American Red Cross

The American Red Cross is sponsoring a wine tasting cruise at 6 p.m. Sept. 15 aboard the M/V Keet. The cruise will depart the dock next to the downtown Seadrome, with food and music provided. Tickets are $50 per person, with proceeds benefiting local American Red Cross services.

Meeting focuses on

issues related to dying

A public town meeting to discuss issues related to dying is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 19 at the KTOO Conference Center, 360 Egan Drive, following a four-part series on the subject that will be broadcast on the public television station.

The series, produced by Bill Moyers, airs at 9 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday. Several Alaska productions will be broadcast, including "Dying Well in Alaska" and an original play produced by Juneau Hospice and Home Care.

Retreat on abortion

offered to women, men

A retreat offering counseling to women who have had an abortion is scheduled Sept. 29 to Oct. 1 at the Shrine of St. Therese. The event, billed by supporters as one of forgiveness and healing, is open to men and women. The cost is a suggested donation of $100, with financial assistance available.
