Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears swimming: At Augustus Brown Pool. Crimson Bears swim team takes on teams from Ketchikan, Petersburg and Sitka, and individual swimmers from Wrangell and Haines. Diving events begin at 3:15 p.m. and swim events at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday hike to Mount Ben Stewart: Meet at Eaglecrest Parking lot at 8 a.m. Very difficult tour is six miles round trip with 3,415 elevation gain. Wear hiking boots, warm layers of clothing and bring plenty of food and water. Experienced hikers only. No dogs or firearms please. Sponsored by Juneau Parks and Recreation.

Open Gyms

Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School: Youth open gym (grades 5-12) free. Saturday, 8/26, and Saturday, 9/9 from 8-11 p.m. Saturday, 9/2, TBA. Adult volleyball/basketball open gyms, cost is $4. Sundays, 9/10 and 9/17. Fridays, 9/8, 9/15 and 9/22. All times from 7-9 p.m. Volleyball/basketball court rentals available Saturday mornings. Info: Community Schools, 463-1700, ext. 325.

Midnight Suns Fastpitch Softball tryouts: Sunday, Sept. 17 at Riverbend School. Tryout times are: age 10-under -- 1 p.m.; 12-under -- 2:30 p.m.; 14-under -- 4 p.m.; 16-under -- 5:30 p.m.; 18-under -- 5:30 p.m. Ages are as of July 31, 2001. Juneau Youth Wrestling Club registration: Thursday, Sept. 7 and 14th from 6-7:30 p.m. at 8345 Old Dairy Road. This club is for youth ages 5-16 who would like to learn or improve wrestling skills and have fun. Bring copy of birth certificate. Cost $50. Financial assistance available. Aqua aerobics classes at Augustus Brown Pool. Begins Aug. 28 and runs from 10:30-11:14 a.m. Also beginning Aug. 28, the Aqua Stretch class will move to Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11:15 a.m. to noon.
