Juneau-Douglas High School football - The Crimson Bears host the defending state champion Bartlett Golden Bears for their final home game of the regular season. Varsity teams play at 8 p.m. and JV squads go at 5 p.m. at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park.

Juneau-Douglas High School volleyball - The Crimson Bears host the Ketchikan Kings in a pair of Region V-Class 4A matches on Friday and Saturday at the JDHS main gym. Times for the varsity, junior varsity and C team matches are TBA.

Juneau Adult Hockey Association registration - Registration for the 2003 early winter season opened on Friday, Aug. 1, and continues through the first week of September for JAHA's coed recreational hockey leagues. The early winter season runs from Oct. 1 through Dec. 15. This is a two-tiered league - with a division for experienced hockey players and one for older players or those new to the game. Both divisions are coed, open to players age 18-older and are non-checking leagues. New this year is a women's league, designed for novice and intermediate players who don't want to compete in the coed leagues. Juneau Douglas Ice Association registration - The JDIA will hold registration for youth hockey, learn-to-skate and figure skating programs from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Nugget Mall. Youth hockey is open for anyone ages 5-18. Learn-to-skate and figure skating programs are open to all skaters, including adults, older than 5 years old. Juneau Billiard Association registration - Registration is open now for the 2003-04 season and continues through Sept. 25 for the Thursday 8-Ball League. The 8-Ball season runs from October through April. There will be a Monday 9-Ball League and a Saturday Women's 8-Ball League with registration at a later date. Registration will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18 and 25, at the Viking Lounge and at Marlintini's Lounge. Registration is $30, with those signing up after Sept. 25 paying a $5 late fee. Capital City Soccer League women's indoor classic league registration - Sign up now through Sept. 20 for the CCSL's women's indoor classic soccer league, which opens play on Sept. 30. No experience is necessary and older women and new players are encouraged to join. Teams play one game a week on Tuesdays at the Mount Jumbo Gym in Douglas. Juneau Youth Football League seeking equipment volunteer - The JYFL is seeking a volunteer to assist the Chair of Equipment. Adult volleyball/basketball open gyms - Meet from 7-9 p.m. on Fridays and from 7-9 p.m. on Sundays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School gym. Cost is $4 and open gym is limited to adults (age 18-older) only. Info: Community Schools, 463-1700, Ext. 325.
Mount Jumbo Gym preschool open gym - This Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation program is open from 10:30 a.m. to noon every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 909 Fourth Street in Douglas for children ages 1-6 and their parents or caregivers. A ration of four children to one adult must be met. Balls, mats, trikes, scooters, large building blocks, parachutes and a Little Tykes climber system will be available for use. Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Recreation Hikes Hotline. Always remember to bring plenty of food and water, wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms are allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Saturday hikes are open to families, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Juneau Disc Golf Association's Sunday Singles mini-tournaments - A weekly Sunday Singles disc golf mini-tournament takes place at 4 p.m. each Sunday (except when there are big JDGA tournaments) at the Dimond Park disc golf course.
