Glacier Swim Club registration - The Glacier Swim Club 2005-06 season starts Tuesday, Sept. 6 and registration will be held Saturday, Sept. 10 at JDHS Commons. Boys and girls ages 5-18 are eligible to try out for the team. Swimmers must be able to swim one length of the 25-yard pool non-stop, both freestyle and backstroke. UAS-HoopTime Basketball Coaching Clinic - The University of Alaska Southeast and HoopTime are presenting a middle school and high school coaching clinic featuring Gonzaga University coach Jerry Krause from 6-8:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9. Juneau Billiard Association 8-ball League - The Juneau Billiard Association's 8-ball league is starting soon. The JBA is looking for pool players of all skill levels. Players can register beginning at 7 p.m. on Sept. 15 at either the Viking Lounge or Marlintini's Lounge. A second registration will be held Sept. 22 at the same time and locations. Mount Jumbo preschool open gym - Preschool open gyms for children ages 1-6 and an adult parent or caregiver takes place from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays starting Sept. 6 and going through April 28. There must be at least one adult present for every four kids. There is a $1 per child fee or punchcards for $10 or $50 can be bought at the gym, which is located at 909 4th St. in Douglas. Treadwell Arena schedule - The Treadwell Arena will be opening up with ice on Sept. 6. Beginning Aug. 20, people can sign up for hockey leagues, classes, camps and skating lessons for the fall season. Juneau Women's Golf League - The Juneau Women's Golf League is looking for experience and new players interested in playing golf. Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - Climbing wall hours are 5-7 p.m. on Mondays, and 3:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee. Evening masters swimming program - The Augustus Brown pool hosts a twice-weekly evening masters swimming program. The program will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is designed to promote and improve the physical and mental well-being of adults age 19-older. Basketball/volleyball court rentals available - The Juneau Community Schools program has basketball/volleyball court rental times available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Recreation Hikes Hotline. Always remember to bring plenty of food and water, wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms are allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Saturday hikes are open to families, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
