Friends are invited to a remembrance of Janis Ann Jorgenson Rountree at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Juneau Pioneer Home.
Janis passed away August 21 after a prolonged bout with Alzheimers, in the company of family and the loving staff of the Juneau Pioneer Home. She was 74.
Born and raised in Juneau, Janis had a passion for travel, but always held the community of Juneau as her favorite. She was instrumental in the development of the community, serving as a board member on its Convention and Visitors Bureau, Downtown Business Association, and President of its Chamber of Commerce. She was a long-time member of Beta Sigma Phi and gave enthusiastically to local charities and schools.
Janis embarked on her professional career first as a bookkeeper and then an entrepreneur with her own business, George's Gifts, which she operated until the onset of her illness. She loved animals, gardening, reading and the company of friends and family.
Janis is preceded in death by her mother, Susanne Isabelle Warwick Jorgenson; and father, Jorgel Indel Jorgenson; brother, William Jorgenson; and sisters Milliree Morgan, Rae Peterson, and Gertrude Millard.
She is survived by her children, Renda Heimbigner, Jaimie Rountree, husband, Graham Rountree; son-in-law David Heimbigner; grandchildren Erick and Brian Heimbigner; in laws Richard and Lucile Rountree, Barbara and Wallace DeBoff; nieces and nephews Connie Morgan, Brenda Donahue, Susan Millard, Bill Peterson, Robert Millard, Roy and Douglas Rountree and their beloved husbands, wives and children.
Her generosity and kindness will always be remembered by those who had the good fortune to meet her.
