State Board of Education to meet this week in Palmer

The State Board of Education & Early Development is scheduled to meet beginning 8 a.m. daily Thursday and Friday in Palmer.

The board will take public comment on agenda and non-agenda items on Thursday. Testimony may be offered beginning at 8:15 a.m. at the meeting site or from remote sites, including one in Juneau. For more information on the Juneau location, please contact Dottie Knuth at 465-2802.

The meeting will include a work session and a business meeting. Topics at the work session include the teacher quality work group, family engagement, early literacy and early learning, a rural education update, virtual learning, a regulation review update, graduation requirements, and a presentation by the Construction Education Foundation.

Regulations may be proposed concerning certain certification requirements, an honors diploma, and amendments to the Alaska performance scholarship. The board will consider adoption of regulations related to review and appeal of actions and decisions regarding funding, public school foundation program, professional content and performance standards, the Alaska performance scholarship, and assessment.
