Somatic lecture, class to be held

A somatic, Jin Shin Jyutsu, Tai Chi and Qigong lecture and demonstration will be held 7 p.m., Sept. 15, at the Unity Room above Valentines.

A somatic movement class is available at the noon hour every Wednesday and Friday at the Rainforest Yoga Studio in the Emporium Mall.

Entries accepted for bookmark contest

It's time for kids in preschool through the 12th grade to show off their creative talents in the Juneau Public Libraries' annual Children's Bookmark Contest.

The Friends of the Juneau Public Library, Hearthside Books, and the City and Borough of Juneau Public Libraries are sponsoring this youth art event in celebration of National Children's Book Week.

Winners from each grade level will be awarded a $10 gift certificate from Hearthside, and both winners and honorable mentions will receive laminated copies of their bookmark design and a $5-gift certificate from The Friends of the Library Amazing Book Store. Winning bookmark designs will be printed by the city of Juneau for use in the public libraries throughout the year. They will also be available for viewing via the Internet on the capital city home page.

The theme for this year's contest is imagine. The design must feature original work done on 4-inch by 11-inch-white paper, or a half-sheet of typing paper folded lengthwise. The bottom two inches should include the artist's name, school and grade. Use only black pen or dark pencil on unlined white paper. No coloring, tracing or copying. All entries will be displayed at the three public libraries throughout the month of November.

Entries will be accepted between Sept. 15 and Oct. 15 at any of the three libraries. For more information, contact the Juneau Public Library's Youth Services at 586-5303.

Garage sale to be held Saturday

A benefit garage sale will be 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at unit No. 15, Riverview Yacht Condos on Industrial Boulevard, across from Willie's Marine.

All proceeds from the sale will go to provide hand powered vehicles to land mine victims around the world.
