CALENDAR OF EVENTS

Sept. 18

• Back to School Doubles Tournament Fundraiser - The JDHS tennis team is hosting its annual fundraiser starting at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 18, and ending with championship matches on Sept. 20 at the Valley JRC. Lunch will be provided to tournament players on Sept. 19. There are several differnent classifications to enter. The cost is $25 per adult for the first event, and $35 for two or three events ($35 max). The cost for juniors is $10 for one event, and $10 additional for two or three events ($20 max). The registration deadline is Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. Tournament open to both JRC members and non-members. Registration forms available at both JRC locations. Call Vicki at 789-2714 for more information. • Taproot Yoga Center instructor Christin Gelinas is inviting everyone to join her yoga practices in the valley this fall. Students receive a discounted $10 drop-in rate for all classes with a valid student ID. Classes are Saturdays, 9-10:30 a.m. for hatha yoga, level one, and Thursdays, 12:30-1:30 p.m., all levels. • Jambaars Youth Soccer Academy - Sept. 2-Oct. 10. Wednesdays, from 6-7 p.m. for ages 5-10, and 7-8:15 p.m. for ages 11-15; and Saturdays from 12-1 p.m. for ages 5-10, and 1-2:15 p.m. for ages 11-15 at JDHS turf downtown. • The Juneau Youth Football League is looking for volunteers for a variety of tasks: fundraising, field photographer, webmaster and more. If you can spare a little time and would like to help out the kids, call Scott Jensen at 209-4644.

• TMHS Cheerleader Babysitting Club - The Thunder Mountain cheerleaders are offering a babysitting service throughout the school year. Red Cross/CPR-trained cheerleaders will work for you in pairs for your babysitting needs. Please call coach Victoria Scharen at 209-1878 for details and to schedule your babysitters.

• Parks & Rec. Indoor Soccer - Registration is in progress and closing soon. Space is limited. Check www.juneau.org/parkrec/youth/y-in-soccer.php, or call 586-5226 for moreinformation.

• Mt. Jumbo Gym Preschool Open Gym - Preschool open gym runs through April, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, in Douglas. Youths ages 1-6 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at a maximum ratio of 4:1. Play equipment, tumbling mats, tricycles, scooters and more are available. Please bring clean, dry shoes and a snack. There is a $1 fee per child, though adults are free with a paid child. Punch cards are available for purchase at the gym.
