City museum hosts public talks on underwater archaeology

The Juneau-Douglas City Museum, in conjunction with the Maritime Heritage Awareness Workshop, will host a special presentation on Wednesday, Sept.15, from 7-8:30 p.m., with two discussions on archaeological research and recovery as well as shipwrecks along the Alaskan coastline.

Alaska State Archaeologist and deputy State Historic Preservation Officer Dave McMahan will precede the speakers with a brief introduction and discussion about the state's ongoing efforts to record and protect historic shipwrecks.

Presentation speakers are Tane Casserley, National Maritime Heritage coordinator for NOAA's office of National Marine Sanctuaries, and John Jensen, professor of maritime studies.
