ANCHORAGE - Enstar Natural Gas Co. said it plans to raise rates for home heating by 22 percent in January.
Company spokesman Curtis Thayer said the company will file its new prices with the Regulatory Commission of Alaska for approval next month.
The company said the increase is necessary to pay for escalating fuel costs.
Enstar serves about 128,000 homes and businesses, including nearly all of Anchorage.
The company estimates the rate increase will raise a typical resident's bill from $125 to $153 a month.
