Hoonah resident Harlena Evanne Sanders, 12, died Sept. 6, 2005, at Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage.
She was Kaach adi, a Raven Land Otter. She was in the seventh grade at Hoonah City School. Nadine Morrison was her big sister for three years in the Big Brother Big Sister program.
She enjoyed beading and carving and keeping her culture alive. She participated in Huna Clan workshops and payoff parties. Her friends and family say that she "had so much love for life and had love to offer anyone who would reach out for it."
She is survived by her mother, Elsie Marie Sanders; her father, Glenn Loyd Glover; her brothers, David Michael Sanders and Brian Robert Sanders; her sister, Nina Marie Sanders; and her grandparents, Larry Sanders Sr., Harlena and Steve Warford, and Eunice and Everett Glover, all of Hoonah.
Pallbearers will be John Glover, Pat Glover, Everett Glover Jr., Casey Yakovich, Keith Skaflestad, George Wright, Brian Roberts and Max Dick. Honorary pallbearers will be Ernie Hillman Sr., Gordon Greenwald, Everett Glover Sr., Johnny Hinchman Sr., Steve Warford, Lilly White, Sam Hanlon Sr. and Mike See.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 11, at Alaska Native Brotherhood Hall in Hoonah. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 12, at Alaska Native Brotherhood Hall in Hoonah.
