ANCHORAGE - Chugach State Park officials closed a trail after a park volunteer was charged by a grizzly bear Tuesday near an Anchorage neighborhood.
The volunteer was trying to open a gate to a parking area at the Canyon Road Trail head off DeArmoun Road.
She was charged by a grizzly apparently guarding a moose carcass.
Park officials said the bear likely was going to remain in the area, so they closed the gate and trail.
Park superintendent Tom Harrison said park officials will try removing the carcass Wednesday, but might wait a few days to reopen the trail to make sure it's safe.
