Singing, dancing students performed at the Juneau-Douglas High School auditorium Sunday night following two days of intensive workshops provided by Bravo, an arts-oriented cable TV channel, and GCI, Juneau's cable TV company. The free workshops attracted about 100 local elementary, middle and high school students. Sunday's performance brought about 500 parents, friends and arts supporters to the auditorium. Bravo Regional Sales Manager Oliver Sims told the crowd the On With The Show program is designed to supplement arts education classes and activities, which are disappearing from America's schools as budgets shrink. He also said the program is aimed at building self-esteem and leadership skills. Sims and other members of the Bravo troupe also presented a $2,000 check to Juneau's Perseverance Theatre in support of its Shakespeare programs for local youths. The two days of workshops in acting, song, dance, comedy and mask work were taught by about 25 instructors from the New York City area, many of whom are active members of Broadway productions.
