Juneau girl swimmers sweep, boys split in Sitka

Led by a mixture of younger and older swimmers, the Juneau-Douglas High School girls swimming and diving team dominated its competition at the Sitka Invitational meets Friday and Saturday at Sitka's Blatchley Pool.

The Crimson Bear girls won Saturday's meet with 170 1/2 points, while Ketchikan took second place with 69. Sitka was third with 38 1/2 points and Petersburg had 36.

On Friday, Juneau's girls scored 180 points. Ketchikan had 79 points for second, Sitka 34 for third and Petersburg 30.

In boys action, the Crimson Bears pulled out a one-point victory on Friday as they won the meet-ending 400-yard freestyle relay. Juneau had 112 points, while Sitka scored 111, Ketchikan had 60 and Petersburg 10.

But on Saturday, Sitka's boys won with 107 points, with Juneau second with 95, Ketchikan third with 62 and Petersburg fourth with four points.
