The Juneau Chapter of the National Organization of Women held its annual meeting on Aug. 2 at El Zarape Restaurant. The following women were elected to the board: Andrea Doll (president), Electra Gardinier (vice president), Melissa Griffiths (secretary), and Eva Bennett, (treasurer).
Doll, a retired educator and former Juneau legislator, was one of the women who helped revive Juneau's NOW chapter at an organizational meeting in 2006 in the same restaurant, known then as Fernando's.
NOW was founded in 1966. Its members work to eliminate discrimination and harassment in the workplace, schools, the justice system and all other sections of society and fights for reproductive rights for all women. The organization also champions an end all forms of violence against women; eradicating racism, sexism and homophobia; and promoting equality and justice in our society. A full history and current issues can be found at www.now.org.
