Alaska Pacific Bank has set up an account to collect donations to help families of the World Trade Center attack victims. Contributions can be made at three Juneau branches: 301 N. Franklin St., 2094 Jordan Ave. and 11800 Glacier Highway, in Auke Bay. They also can be mailed to WTC Families' Relief Fund at the Jordan Avenue branch. Alaska Pacific branches in Hoonah, Yakutat, Sitka, Wrangell and Ketchikan also will take donations.
The account began with a $2,000 donation from the bank and an unnamed donor. Funds raised will be turned over to an appropriate organization in New York City, according to the bank.
The United Way's Juneau office also suggest donations be made to United Way National Response Fund, United Way of America, 701 No. Fairfax St., Alexandria, Va., 22314. Williams Gas Pipeline made a gift of $1 million to start the fund, which will provide immediate support to established emergency assistance agencies, such as the American Red Cross. Donations also are being accepted by the Response Fund on United Way of New York City's Web site at www.uwnyc.org.
