In season: King and dungeness crab, halibut and rockfish (peaks June-Sept.), sockeye, pink and chum salmon (runs June to Sept., peaks in July), coho salmon (June-Nov.), freshwater brook trout (peaks Aug.-Sept.), bear viewing at Pack Creek (June-Sept., peaks July and Aug.), deer (Aug.-Dec., depending on area), mountain goat (Aug.-Dec., depending on area), wolf (Aug.-April), grouse (Aug.-May), ptarmigan (Aug.-May), ducks, geese, brants, swans, snipe, crane (Sept.-Dec.), moose, (Sept.-Oct.), coyote (Sept.-April), hare (Sept.-April), brown bear (Sept.-Dec.), black bear (Sept.-mid-Oct.), and crow (Sept.-mid-Nov.)

Sept. 15-Nov. 15: Bait use allowed for freshwater sportfishing.

Sept. 15: 2001 Fall Trail Celebration with a dinner, auction and entertainment on top of the Mt. Roberts Tramway from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for Trail Mix members, $35 for nonmembers, $15 for children, including an all-day tram pass.

Sept. 15: Alpine Club hike up Grandchild Peaks. This will be a 12- to 18-mile, high intensity, all-day hike requiring an ice ax and crampons. Call hike leader Tim Arness, 789-9119.

Sept. 15-17: The Great Alaskan Sportfishing Championship in Ketchikan. Call 225-6166 for details.

Sept. 16: Sporting rifle, at the Hank Harmon Rifle Range, 9 a.m. registration, shoot at 10 a.m. Juneau Rifle and Pistol Club.

Sept. 17: No moon.

Sept. 21-23: Hunter safety course, Floyd Dryden Middle School, 5:45 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, noon-5 p.m. Sunday. 789-2582 or 465-4267 to register.
