The day care at the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Juneau received a $5,000 grant last week to improve the society's services to low-income youth.
Dan Austin, executive director of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, said the money will help support special programs for the Society's child care, which serves low-income youth.
"We're really very appreciative of the help," Austin said. Money from the grant will be used to help provide health screening for kids, as well as health care that is not covered by regular health care programs.
Every year the Fred Meyer Foundation gives out thousands of dollars in Alaska, primarily to social service organizations like the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Austin said.
