On an unusually sunny day in August, Lt. Col. Tim Koeneman (right), commander of the Alaska National Guard's 3rd Battalion, and Lance Miller, executive director of the Juneau Economic Development Council, visited Camp 17 to discuss possible training activities on the Juneau Icefield. Miller is a board member of the Foundation for Glacier and Environmental Research, which conducts a variety of scientific activities at camps on the icefield. In the background is a Blackhawk helicopter from the Guard's Army Aviation Detachment, and in the upper left is Observation Peak, which stands behind Salmon Creek Dam.
