I am writing because I am a Douglas citizen concerned about the new roundabout. I am glad the Juneau Empire published the article on the roundabout.
I live on Douglas and, of course, go through the roundabout everyday. Everyday I see someone in the circle yield. It's very annoying to see. When I go to work at 8 a.m., this past week, the traffic was backed up past the Douglas Breeze In, probably because of people yielding in the circle.
The city has fixed the traffic problem, but the people have not. I believe that the roundabout could work if everyone made it work. That means no yielding in the circle. If you are entering the circle, you yield and only stop if you need to yield.
Also, I think it would help if people would use their blinker when they are in the circle. It would let the incoming traffic know where you are going. That is probably the kindest thing you could do. Also, it is the law.
