Contra dancers launch fall season

Fall contra dancing begins at 7:30 tonight in the gym of the Terry Miller Legislative Office Building, formerly Capital School. Tom Paul will be the caller at tonight's dance, and the band will be Ladies' Choice.

About a dozen contra and English country dances will be held this fall. Most will be held at the Terry Miller building and the Juneau Dance Unlimited studio in the Scottish Rite Temple. A few will be held in private homes and at Centennial Hall.

All the dances are taught, and no partner or experience is necessary. Comfortable clothes and flat shoes are recommended. The dances are sponsored by the Thursday night contra dancers, an informal group of dance enthusiasts. The cost is $3.

On Sunday, Sept. 24, an English country dance will be held in a home at 525 W. Ninth St. Odette Foster will call the dance and the Sun Assembly will provide the music.

The next Thursday night dance will be Sept. 28 at the Miller building. Charli Meacham will call, and Jig Is Up will play.

A full schedule and more information is available at Call 586-6882.
