POLICE AND FIRE

Juneau police, fire officials and state troopers reported:

Thefts:

* Police responded at 12:32 p.m. Thursday near Ka-See-An Drive to a report of various items stolen from an unlocked vehicle. The items were recovered except a CD case containing software.

Vandalism and criminal mischief:

* A man reported at 6:55 p.m. Thursday near Mendenhall Mall Road that $60 in damage done to a tire of his vehicle while it was parked.

Animal encounters:

* Bears were reported at Thursday at 7:59 p.m. near Auke Bay Post Office Apartments, 8:43 p.m. near Glacier Highway, 10:20 p.m. near Lemon Creek Manor, 10:49 p.m. near Auke Nu Drive, 10:51 p.m. near Chatham Drive and today at 2:50 a.m. near Twelfth Street and Glacier Highway.

Other:

* Capital City Fire and Rescue reported that a fire broke out at 6:15 p.m. Thursday at the Taku Smokeries. An employee put out the blaze. No one was hurt and an estimate of the damage is unknown.
