News flash: Is it a new high school we're asking for or more teachers (meaning smaller class sizes) for the Juneau School District?
In my opinion, I believe it's not how "crowded" our hallways are, but how crowded our classrooms are. I was talking among some of my classmates about how large my senior English class was and how my English teacher could possibly read 35 essays times five (from the other classes he has) and then hand it back to us carefully graded a week or so after. That's incredibly insane unless you're like the superman of all teachers.
I also overheard that not only are the high school class sizes increasing but the elementary class sizes are as well and they're only going to keep increasing. I mean, how are teachers supposed to get to know their students on a one-on-one basis if he or she has 30 or more other students to help?
I believe that the School Board needs to look into hiring more teachers for our school district because not only may it decrease the drop-out rate in the high school, but students may even enjoy their classes and not feel so claustrophobic, overwhelmed, or even left out in their classrooms. No child should ever be left behind.
