. Air Force medics tend to Staff Sgt. Michael Helmick, left, as he waves to a crowd of friends while being loaded from a medevac flight into an ambulance at Elmendorf Air Force Base this weekend in Anchorage. Helmick, a member of Elmendorf's 3rd Logistics Readiness Squadron, was seriously injured Aug. 29, when a roadside bomb blew up near his convoy near Mosul, Iraq. Helmick is in stable condition. He was transported to the Elmendorf Air Force Base hospital for further treatment.
