... from the Girl Scouts

The Tongass Alaska Girl Scout Council had a very successful third Annual S'more Salmon & Silent Dessert Auction fundraiser Saturday, Sept. 3 - thanks to many people. We are so grateful for the support of the Girl Scout program.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the event sponsor, Alaska Travel Adventures; Mike Windred, who served as our dessert auctioneer and did a fantastic job; and the staff at the Gold Creek Salmon Bake who were so wonderful to work with. Thanks also to Chris Burns at KINY radio, KTOO radio and the Juneau Empire for helping publicize our event.

Juneau's restaurants have some very talented chefs and there are some amazing individual gourmet chefs in this community who really shone at our event with their creations. Thank you to the restaurants and individuals who contributed desserts: T.K. Maguires at the Prospector Hotel, Joan Deering at the Paradise Café, Megan McAllister-Junior Girl Scout Troop No. 14, Capital City Fire and Rescue-Glacier Station, Sen. Kim and Marylou Elton, Dave Brower, Senior Girl Scout Troop No. 8, Rep. Beth Kerttula, Debbie Germain, Pat McLear, Representative Bruce Weyhrauch, Debra Schorr, Becca Smith, Teresa Newton, Chinooks at the Goldbelt Hotel, Jonathon Anderson, Kiana Ford-Junior Girl Scout Troop No. 14, Judy McAllister, Kathy Buss, The Hangar, Susan Cox, Capital City Fire and Rescue-Juneau Station, and Rosemary Williams.

Thanks are also due to the wonderful TAGSC staff: CEO Fran Compton; office manager Teresa Newton and AmeriCorps volunteer Amanda Neyenhouse; and especially to several Juneau TAGSC Board of Directors: First Vice-Chair Susan Cox, Candy Brower and Mary Siroky, who planned and executed this fun-filled event. This remarkable group of people, along with our many other volunteers, is committed to ensuring that the Girl Scout program continues in Southeast Alaska to help girls develop the values, self-confidence, and leadership skills needed to make sound decisions about their lives and the issues affecting all of us.

Finally, we especially want to thank everyone who attended the event and generously supported our dessert auction. You truly are making a difference in girls' lives.

... to the young good Samaritans

I wish to sincerely thank the three young people who went out of their way to bring an injured person to the Front Street Clinic on Thursday, Sept. 8. I am sorry that I did not get your names, as I would have liked to give you credit for your generosity. Your kindness and caring helped this person get medical treatment that he was incapable of obtaining on his own. People like you continue to make Juneau a wonderful place to live.

Thank you again.
