The state of Alaska has taken the initiative to suspend the state tax on motor vehicle fuel.
It seems that the city of Juneau should follow suit and drop the city sales tax of petroleum products. That would save approximately 25 cents per gallon of gasoline and heating oil. Now is the time for leadership. Let's help the residents of this city be able to afford to heat their houses this winter, and to be able to afford to drive their vehicles.
Everybody complains about the high price of fuel and blames the station owners, yet no one complains to the city about the high taxes on the fuel. We have money to build a whale downtown (though the project has stalled), yet cannot drop the sales tax so residents can live a little better.
