Pilot dies in plane crash near Talkeetna
TALKEETNA - Rescue crews on Friday found a missing hunter injured in a plane crash that killed a 48-year-old Big Lake pilot near Talkeetna.
According to the Alaska Air Guard, rescue crews spotted the hunter about five miles from the crash site. He was suffering from hypothermia, an ankle injury and burns to his legs and arms.
Frank Dinello was the pilot of the small aircraft that crashed after taking off from Talkeetna on Wednesday afternoon. Alaska State Troopers said Dinello's body was found at the crash site Thursday.
Dinello was flying to a location 40 miles east of Talkeetna. He failed to return for a second hunter and an aerial search was launched. Searchers, however, had to turn back because of bad weather and the search was continued on Thursday.
