Two representatives of the Southeast Alaska tourism industry have received scholarships to attend the 2010 Alaska Travel Industry Association Convention and Trade Show in Whitehorse, Yukon Territories.

ATIA announced William Brent, owner of the Admiralty Westside Lodge, and Melanie Leah, marketing director of the Gustavus Visitors Association, are among the state's scholarship recipients. These scholarships are provided by GCI.

The winners represent rural tourism businesses, businesses that have not attended the convention in the past three years, or businesses with less than $500,000 in annual gross receipts.

"Cost often plays a role in whether or not a business is able to attend convention," ATIA director of member services and communications James Minton stated in a press release. "The GCI scholarships will offset $350 of travel and lodging costs as well as provide free registration for one delegate, a total value of $700. That goes a long way towards making convention possible for these 15 business."
