ANCHORAGE - Mindy Schloss, an Anchorage nurse whose disappearance sparked a six-week search, was found dead this week in a heavily forested area in Wasilla, authorities said Friday.

Police have arrested a person of interest in the case, Schloss' neighbor Joshua Wade, 27. He was charged earlier this month in federal court with bank fraud and using the woman's ATM card. He has not been charged in connection with her death.

Lt. Paul Honeman would not release any other information, he said, because the investigation is ongoing, but said dental records verified the body as that of Schloss.

Police, FBI agents and Alaska State Troopers spent Friday cataloging a crime scene in a wooded area off West Murray Road. The site, about five miles from downtown Wasilla, is known for attracting squatters and partying teens, nearby residents said.

Schloss was reported missing Aug. 6. On Thursday, troopers received a tip from someone who found Schloss' body, said spokeswoman Megan Peters.

Schloss' sister-in-law, Mary Schloss, said her family is relieved that the search is over.

"Now it's time to get on with the trial," she said. "Now that they have her, hopefully they can get some good evidence."

State Medical Examiner Franc Fallico has taken the body to his office for an autopsy.
