Board's move disappointing, but legal

I write in response to your article on page A1 of Tuesday's Empire titled "Redistricting board moves its office to Anchorage."

In the article I expressed my disappointment in the decision because the offices would be located outside of the state's capital and because the decision was one not made by the reapportionment board itself, but by a redistricting planning committee.

Nevertheless, the public should know that the action taken by the committee is expressly authorized by Alaska law (AS 15.10.300) and was taken with appropriate public notice.
