Thursday-Sunday, Sept. 21-24

• JDHS Tennis Team Fundraiser Tournament - The Juneau-Douglas High School tennis team will be hosting its annual fundraiser tournament on Sept. 21-24 at the JRC/The Alaska Club valley location. Proceeds benefit the Crimson Bears tennis team. Entry deadline is Sunday, Sept. 17. Info: Kaelen Knutson-Lombardo, 790-6400.

Friday-Saturday, Sept. 22-23

• Juneau-Douglas High School swimming and diving - The Crimson Bears will be hosting two swimming and diving meets at 6 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday. South Anchroage, Craig, Petersburg, Ketchikan and boys defending state champion Sitka are all expected to attend. The meets will take place to the Augustus Brown Pool.

Saturday, Sept. 23

• Southeast Conference cross country championships - Juneau-Douglas High School hosts the annual Southeast Conference cross country championships at Savikko Park. Runners from Ketchikan, Sitka, Haines, Craig, Petersburg, Mount Edgecumbe and other schools will compete for the 4A and 1-2-3A titles. Time TBA.

Saturday, Sept. 30

• Run for Tristan's Heart - The Southeast Road Runners are sponsoring a family fundraiser walk/jog will take place Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Airport Dike Trail. The run benefits Tristan Arnold, 2, who needs open heart surgery. A $10 donation is required to register and all proceeds will help the Arnold family. The 5K run will take place at 9 a.m. with race-day registration taking place at 8:30 a.m. The 1-mile Family Fun Walk/Jog will take place at 10 a.m. Pre-registration will be available at both JRC/The Alaska Club locations and the Nugget Outfitter. • Juneau-Douglas High School dance team clinics - The Juneau-Douglas High School dance team is starting training clinics for team tryouts. They will take place Oct. 3 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Marie Drake; Oct. 5 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Marie Drake, Oct. 7 from noon to 2 p.m. at Marie Drake; Oct. 9 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the JDHS auxillary gym; Oct. 10 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Marie Drake; Oct. 11 from 5 p.m. until it's done at Marie Drake. Those interested in trying out are encouraged to attend as many training sessions as possible. The tryout is open to all JDHS students. Info: Christa Baxter, 364-3502.

• Women's indoor soccer clinic - The Capital City Soccer League is sponsoring an indoor soccer clinic for women over 16 on Monday, Sept. 25, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. The cost is $5. The clinic wil cover the basics of dribbling, passing and positions and will include some stretches that will help avoid pulled muscles. • Alaska Day Basketball Clinic - Registration is open for middle school and high school students to attend University of Alaska Southeast's Alaska Day Basketball Clinic over the school break from Oct. 18-20. • Women's Classic Indoor Soccer League - The Capitol City Soccer League's women's indoor classic league will start Monday, Oct. 2. No experience necessary, older women and new players are encouraged and welcome. Teams play one game per week on Mondays at Mt. Jumbo or Floyd Dryden gyms. • Juneau Soccer Club coaches clinic - This free coaching clinic, sponsored by the Juneau Soccer Club, will be held Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Floyd Dryden gym. Anyone interested in coaching youth soccer in Juneau is encouraged to attend. The clinic is both practical and theoretical and is designed to give coaches the basic principles of coaching youth soccer in grades 4-12. Info: Colin Barton, 789-7479, twoswedes@alaska.com.

• Juneau Soccer Club introductory skills clinic - This free skills clinic will be held Sept. 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Floyd Dryden. The Juneau Soccer Club is actively recruiting youth soccer players in grades 4-12 to participate in the many year-round training and playing opportunities provided by the JSC. The introductory clinic is designed to be fun for newcomers, with an emphasis on basic skills, learning moves, ball control and playing in small-sided team games. • Indoor Soccer Registration - The Juneau Parks and Recreation indoor soccer registration will continue through Sept. 1 at the Parks and Recreation office. Forms can be accessed at www.juneau.org/parksrec. The season runs from Sept. 30 to Dec. 9. Coaches and referees are needed. Please mail registration forms to 115 S. Seward St., fax to 586-5677. • Start Smart Program - The Start Smart Sports Development Program is for boys and girls ages 4-5 to prepare them for organized sports without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Parents work with their child to learn basic skills such as throwing, catching, kicking and batting for sports like soccer, baseball, etc. It is a six-week program, one hour per week on Saturdays at Mt. Jumbo Gym from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. running from Oct. 14 to Nov. 18. Fee is $25 and each child will receive a t-shirt, workbook and a participant manual. Register at www.juneau.org/parksrec. • Co-ed Master's Soccer League - The Co-Ed Master's Soccer League is for experienced men and women soccer players over the age of 30. There will be no formal teams and no referees. • Football officials needed - The Juneau-Douglas Officials Association is looking for individuals to be football officials. Officiating is a great way to not just watch the games, but to become an active participant in them. • Treadwell Arena ice time and activities - The Treadwell Arena opens with ice at 8 a.m. on Sept. 5. The arena will be taking ice rental reservations. • Mt. Jumbo Gym Preschool Open Gym - The Mt. Jumbo Preschool Open Gym starts Sept. 5. This gym is open to the pblic on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to noon for all children ages 1-6. Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at a maximum ration of four children to one adult. Play equipment and tumbling mats are provided. There is a $1 per child cost for the program. • Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - Climbing wall hours are 5-7 p.m. on Mondays, and 3:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee.
