A celebration wake for longtime Juneau musician Tyler Dean "Tag" Eckles will be held this Saturday, with other event scheduled throughout the weekend.
Eckles died July 26, 2009, after a long battle with cancer.
Saturday's ceremony will begin with an open-mic forum of music and stories at 2 p.m. at the Alaskan Hotel and Bar. At around 5 p.m., guests will proceed to the Red Dog Saloon for the placement of Eckles' ashes. Any who knew Eckles or loved what he did are invited to attend the ceremony.
There also will be a "Tribute to Tag" jam night at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at the Alaskan. Eckles' musician friends are invited to perform.,
On Friday, Sept. 18, Eckles' friend Jeff Tassin, a three-time Emmy-award winning musician from Washington, will perform with friends at 9:30 at the Red Dog. The night of music will also be geared toward honoring Eckles and his huge contribution to the Juneau community.
Eckles, who first came to Alaska in 1971, was perhaps best-known in town for his role as Phineas Poon, the piano player at the Red Dog.
