The Washington-based band Salem will play two shows this weekend at the Rendezvous, Sept. 18 and 19. Both shows begin at 10 p.m.

Salem plays original music, blending elements of funk, jazz, hip-hop and Afro-Cuban music. Drummer, vocalist and songwriter Todd Anders Johnson is an environmental activist as well as a musician, and the band is known for their socially-conscious lyrics.

Salem recently released the group's debut studio record, "as it is above, so it is below," available online at Digsation, CDBaby and iTunes.
