ANCHORAGE - A 59-year-old Fairbanks man has been indicated by a federal grand jury in Anchorage on a charge of tax evasion.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Anchorage says Roger Lee Shoffstall is the sole defendant in the one-count indictment.
Prosecutors say Shoffstall owns Summit Telephone and Telegraph Co. of Alaska. The telecommunications company provides telephone service to several hundred customers in remotes areas north of Fairbanks.
He's accused of not paying income taxes from 1996 through 2003.
If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
