Grummett is insurance group president: Vice President John Grummett of Shattuck & Grummett, a local insurance and bond company, will be inducted as president of the Alaska Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers this October in Anchorage.

In May, Grummett received the Outstanding Young Agent Participation and Contribution award from the Insurance Agents and Brokers of America. The award is given to only one person a year and anyone in the insurance business is eligible.

Silverbow names head chef: Jilneth, the company that owns Silverbow Inn, bakery and restaurant, has promoted Nick Kourtis to the position of head chef at The Back Room restaurant. Kourtis is responsible for managing the kitchen staff and inventory while continuing to create nightly specials for the dinner crowd.

Kourtis is from New Hampshire where his family also is in the restaurant business. Before coming to Juneau, he was traveling and working with the band Phish.

Silverbow also promoted Kelly McLaughlin to supervisor of the bagel shop. McLaughlin is a lifetime resident of Juneau and has been with the company for six months. Her new responsibilities will include taking charge of daily operations such as scheduling employees, making stock orders and keeping track of inventory.

Business center moves: Tongass Business Center has moved from its downtown location to the Lemon Creek area.

The center, which sells and services Sharp business machines such as copiers and fax machines, moved from 1107 Eighth St. to 5445 Shaune Drive. Store Manager Jerry Bicmore said the business made the move because it needed a bigger store.

New VP for Alaska Pacific Bank: Alaska Pacific Bank, headquartered in Juneau, has named Lisa Bell its executive vice president.

Bell, of Juneau, will continue to serve as the chief operating officer of the bank as she steps into her role as vice president. Bell is responsible for the daily operations of the bank and overseas branch administration, information systems, electronic banking, marketing and human resources.

She is a graduate of Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash., as well as the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington. She has been in the banking business for 20 years.
