Eight-year-old Dawson June, 41/2 feet tall, is dwarfed on Sunday by his 8-foot-tall sunflower in front of his North Douglas house. According to his father, T.J. June, the seeds are started indoors at the end of March, and moved outdoors by the middle of April. "They're fun to grow," T.J. said. "And they're hardy. Dawson loves them, and they teach him responsibility."
