ANCHORAGE - The Anchorage School District will offer students swine flu vaccine when it becomes available.
District spokeswoman Heather Sawyer told The Anchorage Daily News the free shots from school nurses will be optional for parents who want their children vaccinated.
The Department of Health and Social Services says many other Alaska school districts are also considering offering the vaccine. It's expected to be available in late October or early November.
The swine flu has been linked to three deaths in Alaska.
The seasonal flu vaccine is already available, and health officials are urging vulnerable people to get both shots.
