The Juneau Police Department waited out a nearly half-hour long standoff to arrest a man on charges of assault and sexual assault Wednesday.
JPD arrested Greg Isturis, 49, for domestic violence assault, third degree assault and first-degree sexual assault, according to a release from the department.
A man contacted police on Tuesday to report his mother had been assaulted. JPD contacted the woman, who had minor injuries and claimed to have been physically and sexually assaulted.
JPD identified the suspect as Isturis. Police obtained a search warrant for his residence and entered it after not getting an answer at the door, the release states. JPD officers found Isturis hiding in a closet with a rifle. He threatened to harm himself, but eventually put the rifle down.
He was taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center and was held without bail.
