Organization: Aiding Women in Abuse and Rape Emergencies (AWARE)
Volunteer Coordinator: Swarupa Toth
Contact Information: www.awareak.org
AWARE, Inc. provides comprehensive intervention and prevention, outreach and education regarding domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse.
AWARE's mission is to provide safe shelter and supportive services for women and children who have been subject to domestic or sexual violence; and to effect the social, political and legal changes needed to eliminate oppression and violence against women and children.
AWARE staff would like to partner with community members interested in supporting kids age 6 and older in youth activities and curriculum on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. Fun-loving, youth-respecting adults are wanted. AWARE's extraordinary Children's Advocates will provide on-the-job training - formal training for facilitators provided in the fall and spring of each year. Background checks will be performed. This is a great opportunity for college students looking for real experience in successful play and work with kids, social work experience or anyone wanting to have responsible fun.
