KETCHIKAN - A pilot and a passenger are safe after the crash of an experimental aircraft shortly after takeoff near Ketchikan.
Alaska State Troopers say pilot Peter Rintamaki took off Friday afternoon from Ketchikan International Airport with a passenger for Prince of Wales Island, but experienced engine trouble.
Rintamaki made an emergency landing in muskeg about three miles west of the airport on Gravina Island.
A Temsco Helicopter landed at the crash scene and transported Rintamaki and the passenger to Ketchikan.
