We of the Family Practice Physicians clinic urge the citizens of Juneau to vote "yes" to continue the 1 percent sales tax for another five years to fund the Bartlett Regional Hospital improvements. Portions of the money raised will also be used to renovate Juneau schools and to build a skating rink.
The Bartlett renovations are essential in order to bring Juneau's only hospital well into the 21st century. Four new beds will be added to the sometimes-overcrowded intensive care unit. The emergency room and X-ray departments will be integrated to increase capacity and efficiency. Major improvements to the obstetric unit will be welcomed by all.
We regard these improvements as essential to our mission to provide the best medical care possible to the people of Juneau, our neighbors and friends.
