... for troop support
The Alaska Army National Guard 3rd Battalion would like to thank the many groups and individuals who gave their assistance and support during the Community Support Our Troops day, held Sept. 10. Juneauites donated enough items for each of the 150 troop members to receive individual packages. This successful event could not have happened without the overwhelming support of the Capital City Republican Women, of which Gale Sinnott was instrumental in organizing the event, the Juneau Family Readiness Group and the community.
We would also like to thank Safeway, Super Bear, and Alaskan & Proud for allowing volunteers to stand at your stores' doors and request participation in the drive. We thank the many businesses that graciously donated company items for each soldier, including: Galligaskins, Heritage Coffee Company, TEMSCO Helicopters, Coastal Helicopters, Alaska Travel Adventures, DIPAC and Alaska Mining and Diving Supply. TAKU 105 graciously helped us get the word out about the event.
In addition to all the items collected, more than $700 was raised for postage at the stores and at the UAS/Armory open house. A very special thank you goes to Bob Jacobsen of Wings of Alaska for his $1,500 donation, which will ensure that each soldier will receive a phone card to stay in touch with family.
Finally, we thank the following persons, who helped by handing out grocery lists at the stores, carrying the donated items to the National Guard Armory facility, or by making a large individual donation: Paul Lisankie, Marjorie Quisenberry, Gen Dickey, Boy Scouts-Lewis Gates and Phillip Martin, Shannon Fields, Lacey Reinhart, Daniel Sypeck, Gale Sinnott, Charlotte Richards, John Bishop, Patsy and Denny DeWitt, SPC Scott Price, Dot Wilson, Connie McKenzie, Susan Bell, Tony Yorba, Joanne Bell-Graves, Donna Collins, Angie Mickle, Brandon Wood, Anjela, Calvin and Josephine Johnston, Martha Penrose, Rainbow Girls-Gabrielle Hazelton, Sorcha Hazelton and Savannah Tajon, Gail Shrader, Cathy and Tom Boutin, and Chad and Tina Rice. Your efforts on our behalf are most sincerely appreciated.
