As part of the first annual Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder awareness event, Native American flutist Morgan Fawcett and well-known contemporary Native American violinist Arvel Bird performed a concert Saturday at the Juneau-Douglas High School. The pair met at the Zion Canyon Art and Flute Festival in Zion, Utah., where Fawcett volunteered to serve as an assistant during one of Bird's workshops. Fawcett brought approximately 50 flutes to donate to kids with special needs and children who have shown musical acuity. The instruments were donated by flute makers and musicians across the country. Flute-receivers attended Fawcett's workshops on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday last week.
