Murkowski announces campaign changes

JUNEAU - The state director for Lisa Murkowski's Senate office is taking a leave of absence to be her campaign manager.

Kevin Sweeney is replacing John Bitney. Spokesman Steve Wackowski says Bitney will still act as an adviser.

Murkowski lost last month's GOP primary to Joe Miller. She announced Friday that she's running as a Republican write-in candidate.

Murkowski says she trusts Sweeney's judgment and abilities. She says he's done an outstanding job reaching out to Alaskans as her state director and understands the state and its constituencies well.
