Photo: Building blocks for reading

Posted: Friday, September 22, 2006

Coogan Construction Co. Superintendent Robert Schenker answered children's questions about his job as a builder at KTOO's most recent Family Night on Sept. 5. Wearing yellow hard hats and using lots of cardboard and colorful duct tape, Juneau kids helped Schenker construct a castle at Family Night. In turn, Schenker, read the children a book about house building, "How a House is Built by Gail Gibbons." KTOO Family Night, every first Tuesday of the month, was created to help build a strong relationship between children and reading. The next Family Night is at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 3, with Juneau authors and artists Susi Gregg Fowler and Jim Fowler. Every child will receive a signed copy of Jim Fowler's book "Benny's Flag." For additional information about this project, contact Susan Stopher at susans@ktoo.org or 586-1670.
